Serving the street children of Guatemala City

We are so overwhelmed by these precious children. They are without exception polite, humble, and so grateful for all we are doing. As you can see by the pictures, they are adorable- we have all picked out several that we want to stuff in our duffel bags and take home! Speaking of humble, this is truly audiology, commando style. Where is my sound proof booth? ABR thresholds??? Acoustic reflex patterns? Maybe a simple speech threshold? I have learned they are entirely unnecessary to fit a hearing aid. All those years of school, down the drain......
The parents of the children we have fit with hearing aids have been so grateful...many, many tears. (yes, of happiness).
We have fit many sets of ReSound Xplores, a set of Sparx, and some power Xplores. The teachers have been phenomenal, and thanks to our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Maureen Riski, they have read the Spanish version of "Oliver Gets Hearing Aids" to each class.
After realizing that we can't possibley use our tru fit material to make bouncing balls for ALL of the children (word travels) , we had fun figuring out how to ask in Spanish and find jacks and balls for the little ones tonight- am looking forward to giving them out tomorrow!
This is a phenomenal, humbling experience, and reminds us all of how much we have in our lives. Check out the pictures to be posted tonight!
Signing out for Day 3-
